Bhubaneswar: The 10th edition of Shabari Utsav was held at Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Every year, the festival is organized by Shabari, a Bhubaneswar-based socio cultural organization established by Odissi dancer Sanghamitra Parida.
The evening was inaugurated by lighting the auspicious lamp by dignitaries including Justice Biswanath Mohapatra, Guru Bimbadhar Das and Chinta O Chetana’s secretary Surendra Kumar Das.
On this occasion Guru Chapala Mishra was felicitated with Nachuni Samman, Guru Sukant Kumar Kundu with Gauni Samman, Guru Bijay Kumar Barik with Bajuni Samman, Guru Shanti Nayak with Lokakala Bibhushan Samman, Guru Sudan Charan Rout with Siksha Sourav Samman, Biraja Prasad Dutta with Nyayadhisha Samman, Sarat Kumar Mishra with Nyayajyoti Samman, Dr Shailabala Devi with Baidyaraj Samman, theatre personality Dhirendranath Mallick with Kala Samrat Samman, Dandapani Mohapatra with Sahitya Sourav Samman, Sarat Kumar Behera with Prabhadipta Samman, Resham Singh and Gourachandra Parida with Sevashree Samman, Banshidhar Sethy with Jeevanayan Samman, Guru Sagarika Parida with Nrityasreshtha Samman, Sunayana Parida with Agami Asha Samman and Karunakar Meher was felicitated with Charukala Samman.
While there was a seminar on the topic of ‘Shree Jagannath Culture and Folk Art’ in the afternoon session, the evening session witnessed some scintillating Odissi performances.
Ashok Ghoshal and Bandita Ghoshal opened the evening with who presented ‘Barsha Basanta Baisakha’, while Guru Sukant Kumar Kundu’s soulful rendition ‘Jeevanare Thibi Jebe Jibi Brundaban’ struck a spiritual chord.
Next, Guru Chapala Mishra captivated the art lovers with her presentation ‘Dibya Kundala Hara’, followed by a graceful Pallavi by Sunayana Parida.
Then, her guru and mother Sagarika Parida brought alive the sensuous “Lalita Labangalata’ from Ashtapadi.
The evening came to an end with two group dances-dancers of Nrutyashala presented ‘Shiva Stutee’, followed by a vibrant Sambalpuri folk dance ‘Ame Sambalpuria Phulare’ by seven working women.
The anchor of the evening was Dr Mrutyanjay Rath, who kept the audience with his insightful commentary.
