Bhubaneswar: The concluding evening of the 14th edition of Guru Debaprasad Award Festival here aRabindra Mandap began with the auspicious lighting the lamp ceremony followed by award giving ceremony.
Guru Prof. Dr. Manoj Kumar Behera, Guru Prativa Panda, Guru Binod Chandra Sahu and Guru Palomi Mandal were conferred with the prestigious Guru Debaprasad Prativa Award 2020 for their contribution towards the field of dance and music.
The cultural evening commenced with a captivating Odissi dance recital by internationally acclaimed Odissi danseuse Guru Aruna Mohanty. She presented Solo Odissi dance Biswa Prakasha – Illuminating the Universe based on Bhima Bhoi’s poetry transformed into the language of dance and music intending to discover that golden crux of universal illumination.
While performing, she seemed to be immersed completely, exhibiting joie de vivre throughout the presentation.
The dance was choreographed by Guru Aruna Mohanty herself, concept and text by Kedar Mishra, music composed by Guru Gopal Chandra Panda and rhythm composed by Guru Bijaya Kumar Barik.
The next item was Mohiniyattam presented by Central Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee Bidushi Gopika Varma. She presented Bhajana “Bisleswar Darshan Kar Chal Man Tu Kashi” written by Maharaja Swami Tirunala. The last presentation of the evening was Sattriya dance by Guru Ghanakanta Bora and Dr. Anwesa Mahanta. They presented Nrisimha Lila based on the episode of Prahalada Charitha by Srimanta Sankaradeva, the piece is set to Kirtana rendition and Ektal.
The programme was appreciated by the audience present in the auditorium. The programme was anchored by Dr. Mrutunjaya Rath.
Dr Achyuta Samanta, Hon’ble MP and Founder of KIIT/ KISS; Prafulla Kumar Samal, Hon’ble MLA; Debiprasad Mishra, Hon’ble MLA; Bishnupada Sethi, Principal Secretary, Odia Language, Literature & Culture and Dr. Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi, Former Vice Chancellor, Sambalpur University attended the evening as guests.
