Veteran Odia actor Bijay Mohanty returns Odisha, hospitalised for follow-up treatment

Bhubaneswar: Veteran Odia cine actor Bijay Mohanty returned Odisha from Hyderabad Sunday.

He was brought to Odisha in a special ambulance having the facilities of an ICU. He was treated for some heart ailments at a private hospital in Hyderabad.

Reaching Odisha, he was rushed to a private hospital for follow-up treatment. Later, film and theatre personalities visited the hospital to enquire about him.

The actor was born at Pandiri village in Kendrapara district in 1950. He was brought up in Baripada in Mayurbhanj. After graduation he joined National School of Drama. He passed out of the institution. Among others, Om Puri, Raj Babbar and Naseeruddin Shah were his classmates.

In Odia film industry, he made his debut in 1977. ‘Chilika Tire’ was his first film that won National Award the same year. ‘Hakim Babu’, ‘Arati’, ‘Mamata Mage Mula’, ‘Jaga Hatare Pagha’, ‘Laxman Rekha’ are some of his films for which he will always be remembered. There are some films where he portrayed negative characters. ‘Sahari Bagha’ is one of them.
