Patna: When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. This is perhaps what Sarita, the only character of ‘Aapki Sarita’, a solo play recently staged at State Urdu Library in Patna, wants to say to us.

Ladli Kumari, the founder of Atulya Arts, a theatre group in Patna, Bihar, was excellent in portraying the character Sarita. As she appeared on the stage, she instantly established a relationship with the audience, with her acting skill.

After failing to clear inter even after her second attempt, Sarita becomes the target of aspersions. She feels all starting from her family members to the neighbours are looking down on her.

Fed up with this, she decides to end her life. As she is about to put the noose around her neck, she asks herself can her death stops people from criticising her? Is it the solution?

Then she drops the idea of ending her life and decides to take on the situation and prove all wrong.

She asks her father to give her money for filling up the form once more for the examination. But her father doesn’t pay any heed.

Then she decides to do a job to meet her education cost. She starts searching for job. She is lucky to get a job in the school where she used to be student.

With her salary, she fills up the form and gives exam.

As she waits for the result, she is down with Typhoid. It takes around two months to recover completely.

Then the result is announced and she finds she has passed in second division. Her joy knows no bounds. Her family members celebrate this occasion. And her father says to her he will bear her education cost and she doesn’t need to work any longer.

And she continues her higher education. Her father gets her admitted to Allhabad University.

The play written by Satish Chitravanshi and directed by Ladli Kumari, has so far been staged for over 10 times with each show giving theatre lovers an engrossing viewing experience.

Atulya Arts, a brain child of Ladli, was established in 2021 and has since been staging plays in different parts of the state.
