Bhubaneswar: The fourth edition of Sampoorna Sadhika Dance Festival, organised by Dhrubatara Dance Academy, an Odissi dance institution in Bhubaneswar, was held at Bhanjakala Mandap in Bhubaneswar on April 25.
The institution was established by Dusmanta Maharana and his wife Tagari Gain, both are disciples of Guru Muktilata Pal, ten years ago. And the remarkable thing about the festival they have been organising since last four years is that its quality is improving every year.
The evening started with the auspicious lighting the lamp ceremony attended by guests like Guru Muktilata Pal, Guru Yudhishthir Nayak and Guru Rupashree Mohapatra.
In the next segment, some eminent personalities were awarded and felicitated. While Padma Shri recipient Odissi exponent Guru Ileana Citaristi, Guru Bichitrananda Swain and eminent vocalist Guru Nimakanta Routray were awarded with Sampoorna Sadhika Samman 2024, Odissi dancers who have carved a niche for themselves like Swetaleena Pattnaik, Pallavi Das and Rama Ranjan Kanhar and noted folk dance guru Uttam Singh were felicitated.
The cultural evening witnessed some scintillating performances.
The inaugural item was Bhabaniashtakam, presented by Moni Deepa, a disciple of Dusmanta Maharana and Tagari Gain. Her beautiful presentation gave a befitting start to the evening.
While the item was originally written by Shri Adi Shankaracharya, it was choreographed by Dusmanta and Tagari. It was based on Raga Baradi and Tala Jati and Ektali , vocal by Manoj Kumar Mati, Guru Vijay Barik on the Pakhawaj, Srinibas Satpathy on the flute, Agnimitra Behera on the violin and Swapneswar Chakrabarty on the Sitar.
The second item of the evening was an Abhinaya ‘Saja Kanja Nayana’, presented by Sasmita Pani and Subhashree Panda. The item was choreographed by Dusmanta and Tagari.
The following item was ‘Hari Om’, choreographed by Trilochan Patra and presented by Anwesha Patra.
The next item was an Abhinaya presented by Sushree Sharmistha, a disciple and daughter of Jyotirmayee Supakar. Then, Roji Swain and Sanjeev Jena came onto the stage to present ‘Haragourashtakam’. The item was choreographed by Guru Bichitrananda Swain.
The sixth item of the evening was a Mangalacharan presented by Advaitaa Panigrahi. Next, Alisha Mohapatra presented an Abhinaya ‘Chandana Charchita’. The following item was a dance drama ‘Make room for elephant’, presented by the students of Art Vision.
Then, Pratyasha Sahoo came onto the stage to present an Abhinaya ‘Sanja Kanja Nayana’, choreographed by Dusmanta and Tagari. Swayamshree Mallick presented an Abhinaya ‘Laje Mun Sari Gali’, disciples of Swetaleena Pattnaik, Nityashree Behera and Krutipta Behera presented an Abhinaya.
The last item of the evening was a pleasant surprise. Two mothers, Piyali Tripathi and Sobha Sharma from Sambalpur presented ‘Namami’ and left the audience mesmerized. It was their first stage performance. The item was choreographed by Guru Ram Ranjan.
The dance lovers and common audience enjoyed the evening till the last item.
