Nataraj Dance Academy’s annual festival held in West Bengal’s Dakshin Dinajpur

Dakshin Dinajpur: The second edition of the annual function of Nataraj Dance Academy (Balurghat branch), a premier Odisha dance institution in West Bengal, was held at Rabindra Bhavan, Balurghat, in Dakshin Dinajpur district, West Bengal on May 20.

Eminent Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Odissi dancer Smt Aloka Kanungo, Odissi dancer and Mardala player Smt Poushali Mukherjee and Smt Sriparna Bose inaugurated the festival by lighting the auspicious lamp.

The evening witnessed some scintillating performances by the students of Nataraj Dance Academy and guest artistes. The students of the institution started the evening with Mangalacharan, and followed it up with Batu, Namo Devi, Naba Durga, Moksha, Mohona and Ganesh Vandana.

They also presented some creative performances like folk and fusion. They concluded the evening with two dance dramas-Chitrangada, written by Rabindranath Tagore and Dash Maha Vidya.

The evening’s another attraction was the performance of Smt Sriparna Bose. A gifted dancer who has honed her dancing skill under the watchful eyes of Smt Aloka Kanungo, she presented Basant Pallavi, choreographed by Guru Smt Aloka Kanungo and Koiborto Prosango, choreographed by Guru Naba Kishore Mishra.

A packed audience enjoyed the evening till the last item.

A disciple of Guru Smt Baishakhi Ganguly and Smt Aloka Kanungo, Suman Mondal is the founder of Nataraj Dance Academy. It was established in 2019.
