Bhubaneswar: The 21st State-Level Drama Festival, organized by Panchamveda, kicked off with a bang last evening, featuring a powerful play that highlights the triumph of devotion over adversity.
The drama, titled ‘Bhakta Ramadas,’ was performed by the talented artistes of Lavanya Theatre, Bhubaneswar.Theatre personalities like Dhira Mallick, Prabodh Rath and Pradeep Biswal inaugurated the evening by lighting the auspicious lamp.
The play revolves around the life of Ramadas, a humble cobbler who is a devout follower of Lord Jagannath. Ramadas’s unwavering faith and devotion to the Lord are put to the test when he is subjected to humiliation and harassment by the village elite, led by the cunning Rati Mishra.
Despite facing numerous challenges, Ramadas remains steadfast in his devotion, and his faith is ultimately rewarded when he discovers a magical stone that has the power to heal the sick. As news of the stone’s miraculous powers spreads, people from all walks of life flock to Ramadas, seeking his help.
However, a Brahmin Rati Mishra and his cohorts are determined to steal the stone and exploit its powers for their own gain. They unsuccessfully try to steal it by setting Ramadas’s house on fire. Then landlord Raghu Mishra takes the stone to his house. The same night, Lord Jagannath appears in his dream and asks him return the stone to Ramadas.
In a dramatic twist, Ramadas discovers that the stone is, in fact, a sacred relic of Lord Jagannath, and that he has been chosen to be its custodian.As the play reaches its climax, Ramadas’s devotion is put to the ultimate test when he is forced to confront his own doubts and fears.
In a poignant finale, Ramadas surrenders himself to the Lord, and is ultimately absorbed into His divine presence.
The play, directed by Satya Jena, features a talented cast, making ‘Bhakta Ramadas’ a truly unforgettable theatrical experience.
The 21st State-Level Drama Festival will continue until March 16, featuring a range of plays that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Odisha.
