Patna: Written by noted playwright Mohan Rakesh, ‘Lehron Ke Rajhans’ (The Swans of the Waves) was staged at Kalidas Rangalay in Patna on December 6. One of the premier theatre organisations, Abhinay Arts was up to the audiences’ expectation in presenting a play like ‘Lehron Ke Rajhans’.

As the play proceeds, the audiences find caught in a time wrap. They are transported to the times of Gautam Buddha.

The play shows Gautam Buddha returning to his native place after attaining ‘Nirvana’. From here, the story progresses as Gautam Buddha asks his family members to follow the path of renunciation. His wife and son follow suit. But when it comes to his brother Nand and his worldly wise sister-in-law Sundari, they find themselves at cross purposes. The dark recesses of human relationship the play brings forth left the audience completely naked in front of the mirror. When they realised the relevance of the play still holds good, they found they were swaying in the play.
A play’s success largely depends on its artistes and what Ladli Roy and Manikant Choudhary did in giving justice to their characters-Sundari and Nand respectively-is to be seen to be believed.
Adarsh Vaibhav’s set design and the light design by Rahul Kumar Raj need special mention.
Last but not the least, a thumbs up to Manikant Choudhary, who directed the play.
