Bhubaneswar: Marking its 26th foundation day, Abhinaya Jagruti Institute of Theatre (AJIT), one of the leading theatre groups in Odisha founded by veteran actor Ajit Das, is all set to roll out the 14th Ajit National Theatre Festival.
The three-day theatrical extravaganza will take place at Bhanjakala Mandap from January 21 to January 23, with performances beginning every evening at 6.30 pm.
The festival will open on January w21 with an Assamese play ‘Basavdutta’, presented by the artistes of Purbaranga, a Guwahati based theatre group. The production is directed by noted theatre personality Gunakar Dev Goswami. The inaugural evening will also see actor Antaryami Panda and KK being felicitated with Ajit Natya Samman and Ajit Yuva Natya Samman respectively.
On the second day, theatre lovers will be treated to an Odia play ‘Nisidha Kakhya’, staged by the artistes of Rangashala, a Puri-based theatre group, under the direction of Bikram Kumar Sahoo. Renowned theatre personality Pitambara Senapati will be honoured with ‘Ajit Natya Samman’ on the same evening.
The festival will draw to a close on January 23 with AJIT’s own play ‘Samakala’, directed by Deepak Ranjan Pati (Aman). During the concluding ceremony, Premanjan Parida will be awarded with Ajit Natya Samman and Pranay Jethi will receive Ajit Media Samman.
AJIT’s secretary, Maya Das while addressing a press conference on Tuesday said that the entry to the festival is free and urged theatre lovers to turn up in large number and make the festival a grand success.
