Ollywood’s ‘Melody King’ Abhijit Majumdar passes away at 54

Bhubaneswar: Eminent Ollywood music director Abhijit Majumdar passed away today morning while undergoing treatment at AIIMS here. He was 54.

The ace music director had been undergoing treatment for liver-related problems. However, he lost his battle with the disease. The news of his demise left the entire entertainment industry, his colleagues and fans in deep shock. Social media platforms have been flooded with condolence messages.

According to sources, the popular music director was admitted to the private hospital on August 27 after he fell ill while performing at a music programme during Ganesh Puja celebrations. Four days later, he was discharged from the hospital. He had to be readmitted on August 31 following complaints of uneasiness.

For better treatment, he was shifted to AIIMS on September 3. He had since been undergoing treatment there.

One of the most-sought after music directors in Ollywood, Abhijitda, as his is fondly called, scored music for over 700 songs for Odia and Sambalpuri movies and albums.

His best works include ‘Munna: A Love Story’, ‘To Bina Bhala Lagena’, ‘Sasura Ghara Zindabad’, ‘Balunga Toka’, ‘Matric Fail’, ‘Rangila Toka’, ‘Love Master’, ‘Daha Balunga’, ‘Smile Please’, ‘Ame To Toka Sandha Marka’, ‘Sundargarh Ra Salman Khan’, ‘Golmal Love’, and ‘Jor Ka Jhatka’.

Notably, popular playback singer Humane Sagar had died on November 17, 2025.
