Bhubaneswar: Abhinaya Jagruti Institute of Theatre (AJIT), a Bhubaneswar based theatre organisation founded by late veteran film and theatre personality NSDian Ajit Das, celebrated its 21st Annual Day at Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar Wednesday.
AJIT has been observing it’s Annual Day celebration on January 20 since its inception in the year 2001. The date is fixed because it is the birthday of its founder Ajit Das. Unlike past years, this year the event was held without having Das in flesh.
It is worth mentioning here that we had lost this veteran actor to COVID-19 on September 13, 2020.
On this occasion of the actor’s 72nd birthday and the group’s 21st Annual Day celebration, the group staged ‘E Nabaghanara Ghara’. What else could be more suitable gift to the veteran than staging a play he had directed.
The play is about a family and the various problems it faces for not having a woman. It was written by Dr Panchanan Mishra.
All the artistes performed par excellence. Stage design and light design by Sourashtra and Pandia and Pradeep Tripathy respectively need special mention.
The event was attended by senior theatre director Dr Ramesh Prasad Panigrahi and secretary, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi, Prabodh Rath as chief guest and honourable guest respectively.
There were no cultural programmes across the state for last around ten months due to the outbreak of pandemic. AJIT theatre group was the first one to stage a play after the restrictions were lifted. The play was staged in adherence to the COVID-19 guidelines. The city theatre lovers who had been kept away from the live theatre viewing enjoyed the play sitting throughout the play.
