Bhubaneswar Sahid Club Ganesh Puja to showcase Kantara-themed torana

Bhubaneswar: Sahid Club, the oldest organisation in the Sahidnagar area of the capital city, is celebrating its 54th Ganesh Puja with pomp and gaiety.

The seven-day long puja beginning on September 14 will feature a major attraction this year- a 65-foot high and 85-foot wide entrance gate (Torana) on the theme of Karnataka’s popular Kantara.

The office bearers of the club announced the details at a press conference on Thursday.

Artisans from Kolkata have been engaged to construct the massive entrance gate.Inside the pandal, artisans are busy giving finishing touches to a 14-foot high idol of Lord Ganesh. This year, the idol will be adorned with silver ornaments.

The club has made elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of visitors. While 22 CCTV cameras have bene installed in and around the area, 80 male and 20 female volunteers will be deployed to manage crowds and maintain law and order.

The immersion procession will be taken out on September 20 at 4 PM accompanied by traditional musical instruments.

The press meet was attended by club president Biuswaranjan Ray, secretary Rajesh Khana, advisor Manoranjan Das, Biswaprasad Mohanty, local corporator Raj Kishore Das, Bibhudutta Das, Mantu Tripathy and others.
