‘Aama Kanduri Jeja’ fame actor Ayas Kanta Swain no more

Bhubaneswar: Noted theatre personality Ayas Kanta Swain passed away on Sunday evening. He was 52.

As a senior actor, Swain was associated with Manoj Pattanayak’s Manana Natya Sanstha, Bhubaneswar. On Sunday, the group was to stage it’s play ‘Aastha’ on the fourth evening of 15th National Theatre Festival organised by Rangashala at Annapurna auditorium in Puri.

Before the final production, the artistes including Swain had a stage rehearsal. It was when all were relaxing sitting in the auditorium, before anyone could understand anything, Swain suddenly collapsed on the ground. He was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH). But, it was too late. The doctors declared him dead.

The news sent shockwaves through the theatre world and among fans.Swain acted in many plays, TV serials and films. Particularly, his performance in ‘Aama Kanduri Jeja’ telecast on Kalinga TV channel had won the hearts of millions.

He was known for his impeccable comic timing and had received numerous awards for his performances.

Dr. Achyuta Samanta, founder of Kalinga TV, expressed deep condolences over Swain’s demise.

Swain’s untimely demise has left a void in the Odia entertainment industry, and he will be deeply missed by his fans and colleagues.
