Adi Guru Odissi Gurukul to present Pankaja Festival 2022 in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Adi Guru Odissi Gurukul is all set to present the first edition of Pankaja Festival 2022 in fond memories of Padma Shri recipient late Adi Guru Pankaj Charan Das  at Bhanjakala Mandap in Bhubaneswar on November 6.

After a Covid-induced gap of two years, the Gurukul is observing the festival once again in offline mode.

This year, the prestigious Adi Guru Pankaj Charan Das Memorial Award will be conferred upon Guru Laxmidhara Jena, one of the disciples of Adi Guru.

Being a descendent of mahari tradition, Guru PankajCharan Das has developed a distinctive style articulated and marked in his dance choreographies. He is the pioneer who has brought this ritualistic service as a dance form, from the temple to the stage.

His creativity and innovation have always adhered to purity and to commemorate the legendary Guru and his contribution to carry on the great tradition,Adi Guru Odissi Gurukul has been organizing this festival.

The Gurukul is solely devoted to imparting training in Odissi Dance, music & art. This Academy fully dedicated to the father of Odissi dance Padma Shri recipient Guru Pankaj Charan Das. Guruji’s eldest son Basanta Kumar Das is the founder of the academy and since 2012 grand daughter of Adi Guru Pankaj Charan Das and daughter of Basant Kumar Das, noted Odissi dancer Pallavi Dash has been imparting the knowledge of this divine art form of Odissi dance and taken forward the legacy to world wide.

To enthrall the art lovers and common audience, the dancers of Gurukul will present ‘Dashabatara’, one of the finest choreographies of Adi Guru.  Similarly, solo Odissi recital by Harekrushna Dhal, group Odissi dance recital by artistes of Nrutya Darpan, Sambalpuri folk dance by artistes of Mudra Dance Academy and Gurukul will entertain the audience.
