Bhubaneswar: It was a pleasure to watch young and dynamic Odissi dancer Pravat Kumar Swain perform in ‘Anuvartanam’ (In tunes with the time) November 29.
‘Anuvartanam’, a series of online Odissi presentations started during COVID-19 time by ‘Srjan’, features solo performances.
He started his performance with ‘Pallavi’ set to raga Bakulavarnam and taal-ektali. His body movements was outstanding, making the presentation a treat to even untrained eyes.
While the item was choreographed by Pravat himself, rhythm composed by Guru Dhaneswar Swain and music by Guru Sukant Kumar Kundu.
The following item was ‘Sriram Stuti’ where various aspects of Shree Ramachandra’s magnificent personalities are narrated and here Swain ticked all the boxes. Music choreographed by Matruprasad Dash, rhythm composed by Guru Dhaneswar Swain and dance choreographed by Pravat himself.
The concluding presentation was ‘Barabadhu’, an adaptation of ‘Bhala Pua’ by Dr Mayadhar Mansingh. Here in this Abhinay set to raga- Darbai and taal-Khemta, music composed by Sumanta Kumar Mohanty, rhythm composed by Bijaya Kumar Barik and dance choreographed by Guru Aruna Mohanty, the dancer was par excellence, once again proving his maturity.
Pravat Kumar Swain, who received his initial training in Odissi dance at Orissa Dance Academy under the guidance of Guru Aruna Mohanty, is presently continuing his P.HD in Dance at the Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar. He has been awarded Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Puraskar-2020, Senior National Scholarship & Junior Fellowship and Government of India’s National Youth Award. He has performed at several prestigious festivals in India and abroad like Canada and other European countries. Recently he participated in the 14th International Festival of Dance & Music, Thailand, Festival of “Days of India in Germany” and Europalia International Art Festival, Brussels.
