Bhubaneswar: Organised by National School of Drama, New Delhi, in collaboration with Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar, five-day-long Bharat Rang Mahotsav 2022, a part of ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration on the occasion of India’s 75 years of Independence kicked off at KIIT in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, who graced the event as the Chief Guest, inaugurated the festival.
The inaugural play was ‘Mahasangramara Mahanayak’, staged by the artistes of Satabdira Kalakar, a Bhubaneswar based theatre organisation.
Set on the backdrop of the first armed revolution against the British, the play depicts the life of Kalinga Paika army head Buxi Jagabandhu, who was the chief of Odia army led by Gajapati Maharaj Mukunda Dev of Puri.
The uniqueness of the play is that the Chief Guest of the evening is the playwright of the play. Satabdira Kalakar’s founder Dhira Mallick is the director.
While the story telling was impressive, the artists’ efforts to infuse life into their characters was visible, even to naked eyes.
That theatre lovers remained glued to their seats till last scene of the play suggested the success of the play.
