Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav’s 18th edition is all set to enthrall art lovers, connoisseurs and common audience at the foot of Dhauli hill, on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar from March 22 to 24.
The main attraction of this festival, organised by Orissa Dance Academy and Odisha Tourism in association with Art Vision, is Buddha Samman, which is conferred upon an eminent art personality from the field of creative and performing art every year.
The award carries a citation, anga bastra and cash award of Rs 1,00,000. This award is being instituted by Orissa Dance Academy, Bhubaneswar.
This year, the prestigious award will be conferred upon eminent Odissi danseuse and former vice chancellor of Sambalpur University Prof (Mrs) Priyambada Mohanty Hejmadi.
This apart, four eminent personalities will receive Guru Gangadhar Pradhan Smruti Samman. They are Guru Durgacharan Ranbir, Padma Shri Awardee, Eminent Odissi Dance Exponent; Shri Laxmikanta Palit, Renowned Music Composer and Singer; Pt. Nityananda Mishra, Noted Sanskrit Scholar; Shri Somdutt Behura, Promoter of Odissi Dance in USA.
This prestigious award carries a citation, anga bastra and cash award of Rs. 25,000/- to each awardees.
ODA has instituted another award in the memory of its founder Guru Shri Gangadhar Pradhan as “GURU GANGADHAR SMRUTI SAMMAN” since 2016.
The cultural evenings will start at 6:30pm with Peace Pagoda forming the backdrop.
Dhauli Mahotsav is intended to permeate the gospel of peace through the concerts of classical & folk dances and music of India by synthesizing the quintessence of religions and faiths.
While Kalinga Mahotsav sends the message of peace through the martial arts being represented from across the country and abroad.
Near about 300 artistes from different disciplines participate in the mahotsav. We also aim to embrace many artistes into its cultural fold and aims at international cultural amity and harmony.
On the inaugural evening, Bimbabati Devi and group from Kolkata and Pravat Kumar Swain of Nrutya Naivedya, Bhubaneswar will perform Manipuri and Odissi dances respectively.
The concluding item of the evening will be a presentation of contemporary martial arts by Santosh Nair’s Sadhya- a unit of performing arts from New Delhi.
On the second evening, Praveen Kumar and group of Chithkala School of Dance from Bangalore and Rekha Mehra and group of Urvashi Dance and Cultural Society from New Delhi will perform Bharatnatyam and Kathak dances respectively.
The concluding item of the evening will be Prahallad Natak by Guru Gajendra Panda and group of Tridhara from Ganjam.
On the third and concluding evening, Pramod Kumar Sahoo and group of Colors of Rhythm from Bhubaneswar will present a group tabla recital. It will be followed by an Odissi dance presentation by Guru Aruna Mohanty and group of Orissa Dance Academy.
The concluding item of the evening will be Thang-Ta, a traditional martial art form, by G Biseshwor Sharma and group of Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association from Manipur.
