Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia devotional singer Santilata Barik Chhotray passed away at a private hospital here on Monday. She was 64.
After a prolonged battling with serious health issues, she breathed her last whereby an era of devotional singing has come to an end.
As the news of her denise broke, condolence messages started pouring in. Starting from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Governor Raghubar Das, singers, music directors and her fans took to their social media platforms to express their grief. Some visited her residence at Kedargouri area to pay their last tribute to the departed soul.
Her last rites will be held at Puri Swargadwara with full state honours on Tuesday, it was learnt.
A trained Odissi singer, she will be remembered forever for her unique rendition. Her songs like ‘Thaka Mana Chala Jiba’, ‘Jagannatha Tume Bada Chhalia’, ‘Bhaji Bhaji Ta Nama Chakanayana’, ‘Kaliare’ will keep her alive in her fans.
