Bhubaneswar: Bikalananada Kar, a household name synonymous with its spongy Rasgulla in Odisha and beyond, is now venturing into uncharted territory—Ollywood.

The confectionery brand has decided to try its hand at filmmaking with its maiden Odia production, ‘Pashapali’.

Ekamra MLA Babu Singh and social activist Jagannath Pradhan on Tuesday unveiled its poster at a grand ceremony at the Press Club, Bhubaneswar.

Produced by Prashant Kumar Kar and directed by Sanjay Nayak, the film, ‘Pashapali’ appears to delve into the world of politics, as suggested by its title. Its star cast features Shreemayee Mishra, Poonam Mishra, Raj Rajesh, Dushmant Panda, Biranchi Nayak, among others.
Celebrated music director Malay Mishra has been roped in to compose the music for the film.

The production house believes the film will hit the silver screen before Durga Puja.

Publicity and media promotion have been overseen by Pranaya Jethi, Creative Head of Media Planner.

After all, making sweets and making movies are two different ball games. The brand has already carved out a name for itself in the confectionery business; now, the real test will be whether it can make its mark in Ollywood too—or whether it should, as the old saying goes, stick to what it knows best.
