International Odissi Dance Festival concludes in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The five-day Odissi mega confluence, International Odissi Dance Festival, organised by the Guru Kelucharan Odissi Research Centre and Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, on Tuesday concluded at Rabindra Mandap, leaving audiences spellbound with a rich blend of tradition, devotion and artistic excellence.

The morning session started with the dance programme featured Lingaraj Kala Niketan (Group), Ankita Behera (Solo), Suhana Mishra (Solo), Joyita Pal & Agnisha Basak (Duet), Diptis Kumar Satpathy (Solo), Radhika Rajesh Kubde (Solo), Subhasini Mallick & Suvashree Suchismita Mallick (Duet), Indrajit Sarkar (Solo), Swarnanki Das (Solo) and Debarchana Dance Academy (Group) who presented some brilliant performances much to the appreciation of Odissi lovers.

The afternoon session started with the dance programme showcased Natasutra Research Public Charitable Trust (Group), Ramakanta Sahoo (Solo), Preetipragyan Das & Ranjita Priyadarshini Pani (Duet), Subhrakanta Pradhan (Solo), Swagatika Sahoo & Dibya Priyadarshini Das (Duet), Itishree Mohanty (Solo) and Nrutyarchana (Group).

The evening programme started with the performance of renowned Odissi Dancer Guru Aloka Kanungo followed by Preeti Mohapatra (Solo), Vidisha Basumallik & Rohini Samal (Duet), Preetisha Mohapatra (Solo), Paulami Chakraborty (Solo), Moushmi Madhu & Pranavi Annadurai (Duet), Sagnya Sucharita Nayak (Solo), Simantini Mitra-Beura (Solo) and Darpani (Group).

The highlight of the evening was eminent guru and Kendra Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Aloka Kanungo, who brought alive Raseshwar’s Rasaleela through an evocative dance interpretation.

Her performance, deeply rooted in classical aesthetics, beautifully portrayed Shri Radha’s grace, expression and intense viraha bhava, seamlessly blending stance, expression and rhythm.Set to Raga Pahadi and Malika Tala, Kanungo presented Jayadeva’s celebrated ashtapadi “Sakhi he Kesi Madana Mudaram”. With music composition by Pandit Bhubaneswar Mahapatra and choreography inspired by the legendary Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, her recital created a deeply emotional and spiritually charged ambience in Rabindra Mandap.

The concluding evening of the festival was started with the auspicious lighting of the lamp by Dr. Shyamamani Devi, Eminent Singer; Guru Gopal Chandra Panda, Eminent Singer; Manoranjan Panigrahy, Former Principal Secretary, Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department; Guru Bichitrananda Swain, Eminent Odissi Dancer; Dr. Jyotsnarani Sahoo, Eminent Odissi Dancer; Dr. Chandrasekhar Hota, Secretary, Odisha Sangita Natak Akademi; and Suchisimita Mantry, Administrative Officer, GKCM Odissi Research Centre.
