Konark: The fourth evening of the 35th Konark Festival 2024 enthralled audiences with spellbinding performances of Kuchipudi and Odissi, illuminating the grand stage set against the breathtaking backdrop of the iconic 13th-century Sun Temple.
The evening commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished dignitaries, including Dinabandhu Sahu, Principal Accountant General (A & E), Odisha, Dr. Dibishada Brajasundar Garnayak, Superintending Archaeologist, ASI, Puri Circle, Odisha and Biswajit Routray, Additional Director, Tourism.
The evening began with a captivating Kuchipudi recital by Guru Deepika Reddy and her group from Deepanjali, Hyderabad. The performance opened with Kuchipudi Vandana, an invocation seeking divine blessings, followed by ThakkuvemiManaku, a melodious piece in praise of Lord Rama, and Madhuram Madhuram, a delightful depiction of Lord Krishna’s playful and divine tales.
The recital concluded with Nritya Neerajanam, a joyous composition showcasing the aesthetic beauty and rhythmic intricacy of Kuchipudi. The choreography by Guru Deepika Reddy, paired with music by Shri DSV Sastry, left the audience spellbound.
The second segment featured a magnificent Odissi performance by Guru Bichitrananda Swain and his ensemble from Rudrakshya Foundation, Bhubaneswar.
The recital commenced with Hamsakalyani Pallavi, a pure dance sequence that celebrated the elegance of Raga Hamsakalyani through intricate footwork and fluid movements. The pièce de résistance was Sakya Muni Buddha, a poignant narrative exploring the journey of Prince Siddhartha as he transformed into Buddha, championing compassion and enlightenment. The choreography by Guru Bichitrananda Swain, set to music by Guru Srijan Chatterjee and Guru Ramhari Das and rhythms by Guru Dhaneswar Swain, captivated the hearts of the audience.
At Chandrabhaga Beach, the International Sand Art Festival entered its fourth day, showcasing incredible sand sculptures by talented artists from across the globe. With themes of Cleanliness is Service, Beauty of Marine Life and Wildlife & Environment, the festival continues to celebrate creativity and global harmony.
