Mithun Chakraborty to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

Actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty has been named as the recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour given by the central government for contribution in the field of cinema.

The three-time national award winner, Mithun Chakraborty made his Bollywood debut with ‘Mrigaya’ (1976), a film directed by Mrinal Sen.B Subhash’s ‘Disco Dancer’ made him a superstar overnight. Some of his hit films are ‘Suraksha’, ‘Wardat’, ‘Ghar Ek Mandir’, ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahin’, ‘Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki’, ‘Dance Dance’, ‘Prem Pratigyaa’, ‘Swarag Se Sundar’, ‘Dalal’ and ‘Main Balwan’, ‘Ghulami’, ‘Agneepath’, ‘Waqt Ki Awaz’, ‘Guru’ and the list goes on.

An alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India, Mithun Chakraborty is one of the few actors who won national award for their debut movie. Besides ‘Mrigaya’, he won national awards in two other films and they are ‘Tahader Katha’ (1992) and ‘Swami Vivekananda’ (1998).

The versatile actor has acted over 350 films across multiple languages including Odia movies.Mithun Chakraborty-starrer some Odia films are ‘Sahara Jauchhi ‘, ‘Ee Jugara Krushna Sudama’ and ‘Kurukshetra’.
