Bhubaneswar: Noted music director Jalal Adeni passed away following a cardiac arrest at his residence near Buxi Bazar in Cuttack city on Monday. He was 85.

His demise left the film fraternity, music lovers in shock. They thronged his residence to pay their tribute to the departed soul.

Born in Ganjam’s Bhanjanagar on June 23, 1936, Adeni had been a music lover since his childhood days. After completing his schooling in Government Queen Mission High Secondary School in Berhampur, he did his Plus II from Khalikote College and graduation from Jadavpur Engineering College. He then got a job in the Railway Department.

But he never found his heart in his job. It seemed to him that something was still missing. Eventually, he resigned from his job, and dedicated his life to fulfill his dream. For some days, he did theatre and then did a film ‘Kie Bujhiba’. He introduced playwright Bijay Mishra through this film. However, the film could not see the light of the day. Due to some problems, he had to leave it half way through.

Then came ‘Anutap’. All the songs of his first film were used for ‘Anutap’. Lyricist Nizam and singer Tansen Singh made their debut with this film. And the songs like ‘Mu Tumoku Bhala Pae Luchi Luchi Ka’, ‘Nupura Kanhiki’ Mu Bandhil’ and ‘Nida Bhara Rati’ stroke a chord with music lovers. These classic songs have still been favourite of music lovers of this generation too.
