Bhubaneswar: In a groundbreaking moment for Odisha’s film industry, the motion poster of the Odia feature film ‘Baghuni’ (Dance Like a Tiger) was unveiled at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
This marks the first time an international co-production from Odisha has been showcased on such a prestigious global platform.

The unveiling took place at the Bharat Pavilion, hosted by India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, where director and co-producer Jitendra Mishra, along with producer Partha Panda, presented the film’s first look to an audience of international dignitaries and film industry leaders.
‘Baghuni’ is a collaborative effort between the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), Glocal Films UK Ltd, and Cinema4Good Pvt. Ltd.
This project signifies NFDC’s return to Odisha after more than two decades, highlighting a renewed interest in the state’s rich storytelling traditions.

Starring renowned Ollywood actor Sahttps://kalasanskruti.in/historic-moment-for-odia-cinema-screening-of-chaarikaandha-held-in-belgium/byasachi Mishra, the film delves into themes of resistance, resilience, and societal transformation, aiming to bring Odisha’s cultural heritage to a global audience.
The script is penned by national award-winning writers Shankhajeet De and Dr. Sulagna Mohanty, with Utpal Borpujari as script consultant and Susanta Mani as dialogue writer.
Set to be filmed across various locations in Odisha and London during September and October 2025, ‘Baghuni’ will be produced in multiple languages, including Odia, Sambalpuri, Koshli, and Hindi, to cater to a diverse audience.
With its international debut at Cannes, ‘Baghuni’ sets a new precedent for Odia cinema, signaling a promising future for regional films on the world stage.
