Bhubaneswar: At a time when the Odia film industry is clearly riding a new wave, powered by a vibrant crop of young talent and films deeply rooted in Odisha’s culture hitting the stride, a young and talented team has now presented the new Odia feature film ‘Bindusagar’, which has been released in 85 theatres across India.

Backed by Mumbai-based producer Shiladitya Bora and helmed by emerging director Abhishek Swain, the film brings together a compelling narrative penned by Abhishek Das.

This reviewer had the opportunity to watch the movie on its premier show at Maharaja talkies here on April 17 (Friday). The audience response was overwhelming. Without giving the game away, it’s safe to say the film is a polished piece of work that feels close to home. It pulls you in from the get-go and carries you along effortlessly, like a smooth current you’re happy to drift with.

Produced by Platoon One Films in association with Boundless Blackbuck Films, ‘Bindusagar’ boasts a solid ensemble cast, featuring Prakruti Mishra, Dipanwit Das Mahapatra, Satya Ranjan, and Sonali Sharmistha, alongside seasoned performers like Rabin Das and Jagannath Seth.

All the actors did their best to give justice to their characters and technicians brought their A-game, with Prakruti and Dipanwit truly stealing the show. The songs fit like a glove, blending seamlessly into the narrative without ever feeling shoehorned in.

With a wide national release and a youthful creative team behind it, ‘Bindusagar’ is expected to add fresh momentum to the growing Odia cinema movement.
