Odissi guru Dr. Pitambar Biswal honoured with Dr. B.R. Ambedkar International Award

Bhubaneswar: Celebrated Odissi exponent Guru Dr. Pitambar Biswal added yet another feather to his cap after being conferred the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar International Award by the World Charity Welfare Foundation, which has its registered office in Delhi.

The award ceremony was held with grandeur at Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

Dr. Biswal, the founder of the renowned Odissi dance institution ‘Suravi’, was honoured for his tireless dedication to classical dance and his unwavering commitment to preserving India’s rich cultural tapestry.

One of the renowned Odissi gurus of his time, his journey has been one of grace, grit, and glory.

Over the years, Dr. Biswal has carved out a niche for himself on the national stage, having performed at some of the country’s most prestigious cultural festivals, including the Nishagandhi Dance Festival (Thiruvananthapuram), Kakatiya Festival (Warangal), Dusshera Festival (Kullu), Konark Festival (Odisha), and Chakradhar Samaroha (Chhattisgarh).

No stranger to accolades, his name is already etched in the annals of Indian classical dance with honours such as ‘Kala Bhushan’ (Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra), ‘Nrutya Shree’, ‘Radha Krushna Samman’, ‘Nrutya Siromani’, and ‘Natya Shree’, among others.

Not content with just performing, Dr. Biswal is also organising Ekamra Nrutya Mahotsav every April. The festival has become a vital platform for both emerging and established artistes to showcase their talent.

With this latest recognition, Dr. Biswal continues to shine as a cultural beacon, taking Odissi to newer heights while keeping its traditional roots alive and thriving.
