Patna: Two-day long theatre festival ‘Rangkarmi Pravin Smriti Samman Natya Utsav’ going on at Premchand Rangshala, Rajendra Nagar in Patna came to an end December 10.
The second evening of the festival began with a felicitation ceremony. On this occasion, while theatre personality Ruby Khatun’s name for ‘Pravin Smriti Samman’ for the year 2020-21 was announced, Roshan Kumar, who is the director and secretary of The Strugglers, was awarded for the year 2019-20.
recipient of the award for 2019-20 was felicitated. Ruby Khatun will be felicitated at a special event on April 8, 2021.
The award was instituted in the memory of young and dynamic theatre personality Pravin Kumar who was shot dead by miscreants on December 10, 2003. Then, he was actively associated with Nirman Kala Manch and worked as an acting teacher at Delhi Public School here.
Since then, Pravin Sanskritik Manch and Nirman Kala Manch have jointly been organising ‘Pravin Smriti Samman Natya Festival’ in his memory on his birthday, i.e. April 8 and on this occasion, a theatre personality is felicitated with ‘Pravin Smriti Samman’.
This year the festival was also scheduled to be held on April 8 but had to be postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak. The same was observed December 9 and 10.
As is the set tradition that the recipient of the award is to stage a play, Roshan Kumar’s group The Strugglers staged a play titled ‘Bade Bhaisahab’ on the second evening.
‘Bade Bhaisahab’ is one of the best stories of Munshi Premchand was designed and directed by Roshan Kumar.
The play revolves around two brothers who are away from home, staying in a hostel. They are poles apart in nature with the elder brother spending all the time in reading, the younger brother loves playing with his friends. The younger brother sits at reading whenever he finds his elder brother is watching over him.
Due to some reasons, the elder brother fails at the same class for two consecutive years. And on the other hand, the younger brother gets promoted and he finds he is in the same class as that of his brother. Hereafter, the confusion between the two siblings starts, leaving the audience rolling in the aisles.
Rahul Kumar Ravi and Ramesh Kumar got full marks for their brilliant performance. And Roshan Kumar’s light design and direction ticked all the boxes.
On the inaugural evening, Pravin Sanskritik Manch staged Hulhulia, written by Rabindra Bharti and directed by Bijyendra Kumar Tank.
The festival was held with strict adherence to COVID-19 norms prescribed by the government.
