Theatre personality, Padma Shri awardee Bansi Kaul no more

Bhopal: Noted theatre personality and Padma Shri awardee Bansi Kaul passed away at his Delhi residence February 6. He was 71.

Born in a Kashmiri Pandit family in Srinagar on August 23, 1949, Bansi graduated from National School of Drama in New Delhi in the year 1973. He began his career as a professor of NSD. In the year 1984, he founded his own theatre repertory Rang Vidushak in Bhopal. The group participated many prestigious theatre festivals across the nation.

Besides Padma Shri, he was honoured and felicitated at various festivals. Government of Madhya Pradesh conferred Shikhar Samman on him in the year 1994, Safdar Hashmi award by Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1995 and Rashtriya Kalidas Samman in 2017.
