Bhubaneswar: Organised by Odisha Sangeet Natak Academy in association with District Council of Culture and Alternative Rhythm Theatre, Dhenkanal, the theatre workshop was inaugurated at Maharshi Dayanand Service Mission at Govindpur on November 25.
While the event was virtually attended by state Tourism and Culture Minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi as chief guest; president, Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi (OSNA), Ramkrushna Sahoo; director, Culture Department, Ranjan Kumar Das and district Collector Bhumesh Chandra Behera as honourable guests, secretary, OSNA, Prabodh Rath inaugurated the workshop, NSDian Dolagovind Rath attended the event in flesh. Among others, chairperson, Alternative Rhythm Theatre, Pushpalata Rath and district culture officer Sukru Swain also graced the occasion as guests.
Referring theatre as a panacea for bringing in changes in society for the best and producing good human beings, secretary, OSNA, Rath said such workshops go a long way in improving the theatre. All should work for the development of theatre.
As many as 17 participants from different parts of the state have enrolled for this 15-day long workshop, ending on December 9. Here the participants will learn various aspects of stage and light design.
NSDian Rath and well known theatre director Dinesh Das will be attending the workshop as workshop director and assistant director respectively.
Alternative Rhythm Theatre is one of the premier theatre groups in the state. It also organises its own theatre workshops. In summer, it holds two workshops imparting training in various aspects of theatre.
Panchamveda, a Bhubaneswar based theatre organisation and one of the reputed theatre organisations in the state, is also organising a 15-day-long theatre workshop in Bhubaneswar, starting on November 29 in collaboration with Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC).
Panchamveda’s workshop is designed for 15 participants who must be over 20 years of age. Of 15 participants, three will be girls and ten of the rest 12 will be youths.
Panchamveda, general secretary, Prakash Chandra Moharana informs that the workshop is a production oriented one. A play will be staged on December 13.
Haren Sahoo, the working president of Panchamveda, who is also the president of Odisha Natya Sangha and some others including Surendranath Goud, Abhimanyu Sethi, Arabinda Mahunta established this theatre group in the year 2002. This group has since staged many plays at various theatre festivals in and out of Odisha.
It is also organising it’s own theatre festivals. It organises two festivals in a year. One is State Level Theatre Festival/Panchamveda Samman started in 2005 and the second one is Annual Function/ Sanskriti Mitra Samman started in 2009. In the memory of its ex-Chairman Amiya Ranjan Patnaik, it has been felicitating a theatre personality with Smruti Samman for two years now.
