Title of Sabyasachi Mishra’s upcoming film shortened to ‘Ananta’ amid public outcry

Bhubaneswar: The forthcoming Odia film starring Sabyasachi Mishra has officially changed its title from ‘Randi Pua Ananta’ to ‘Ananta’ following public concerns over the original title.

The film, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sabyasachi Mohapatra and produced by Amara Studios in association with Kumar Pictures, is based on the short story ‘Randi Pua Ananta’ by renowned Odia writer Fakir Mohan Senapati.

The original title, Intended to honor the literary roots of the film, sparked controversy due to the term ‘Randi’, which some audiences found offensive.

In an official statement, the filmmakers acknowledged the discussions and controversies surrounding the title and expressed their desire for the film to be embraced by the entire audience.

“From the time of making a movie on the timeless story ‘Randi Pua Ananta’, there have been many discussions and controversies regarding the name. Despite such a beautiful effort, this situation is painful for our team. Those who find the name uncomfortable may never be able to support the film freely,” the statement read.

The team decided to rename the film ‘Ananta’ while still crediting it as based on ‘Randi Pua Ananta’ to respect the original literary work.

“Literature cannot be changed, so we are making the movie under the title ‘Ananta’, writing it as based on ‘Randi Pua Ananta’ to respect the creation of Byasakabi. For those who understand the soul of this story, it is far beyond the name,” the statement added.

The film Is slated for release during the upcoming Raja festival and is highly anticipated across Odisha.

Sabyasachi Mishra has undergone a significant physical transformation for the role, gaining over 22 kg to portray the character authentically.

He was last seen In the acclaimed film ‘Pushkara’, directed by Subhransu Das.

The decision to change the title reflects the filmmakers’ commitment to balancing respect for literature with public sentiment.
