Veteran actor Jayiram Samal receives ‘Basant Nayak Smruti Samman’ in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Basant Nayak Foundation on Thursday celebrated Ollywood’s showman late Basant Nayak’s 88th birth anniversary at Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

On this occasion, the foundation honoured Veteran Odia film actor Jayiram Samal with ‘Basant Nayak Smruti Samman’, marking his lifetime contributions to the film industry.

The guests who graced the occasion including eminent cine personalities Uttam Mohanty, Pradyumna Lenka, Sabyasachi Mohapatra, Harihara Mohapatra, Asit Mohanty and Barsha Priyadarshini remembered the time they spent with Basant Nayak. Sanjay Nayak and his wife Anuradha Nayak, son and daughter-in-law of Basant Nayak, also shared the dais.

While informing about the future course of action of the foundation, Anuradha Nayak said the foundation will do some social activities every month. In the first phase, it will take steps for the betterment of technicians. The foundation’s members also decided to submit a proposal to the government for the installation of a statue of Basant Nayak either in Bhubaneswar or in Cuttack or at Kalinga Studio Square or inside the studio premises.

The stage was managed by Sthita Pattnaik and Prerana Pratiksha.

The cultural evening witnessed singers including T Shourie, Goodly Rath, Sheetal Patra and Nazia Alam presenting songs from Basant Nayak’s movies.

Basant Nayak was a multi-faceted personality, a filmmaker, director and distributor all roled into one. He made his directional venture with ‘Naga Phasa’ in 1977. Then he went on giving some hits like ‘Danda Balunga’, ‘Maa’, ‘E Jugara Krushna Sudama’, ‘Jahaku Rakhibe Ananta’, ‘I Love You’, ‘Paka Kambala Pota Chhata’, ‘Premi Number One’ etc.
