Visually challenged singers leave audience mesmerized in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: An enthralling musical evening with performances by visually challenged persons, organised by Swetapadma Sangeetalaya Cultural Trust, Bhubaneswar, in association with the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department, Government of Odisha, was held at Gitagovinda Sadan, on the premises of Jayadev Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

The evening, organised on the occasion of ‘Wheel Chair Day’, had esteemed guests like Director of the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department Smt Niyati Patnaik, Additional Secretary of the Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Department Deepak Routray and senior journalist Pradyumna Satapathy who inaugurated the musical evening by lighting the auspicious lamp.

The first singer of the evening was Biswanath Mallik, who gave a befitting start to the evening by singing ‘Jagannatha Tume Parambrahma’, a prayer to Lord Jagannath.

Next, Alisha Choudhary came onto the stage. She sang ‘Aji Mun Shrabani’, a song from film ‘Arundhati’, originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar. With her excellent performance, she left the audience mesmerized.

The following singer was Sarada Prasanna Rout who sang ‘Majhi Re’, from ‘Sesha Shravana’, originally sung by Pranab Patnaik.

The next song was ‘Radha Madhava Ghena Pranati Mora’ presented by Saismita Ray.With his sonorous voice, Amiya Kumar Barik sang ‘Hrudayara Ehi Sunyataku’, from film ‘Samar Salim Saimon’, originally sung by Sekhar Ghosh.

The next singer was Suprava Pati, who presented ‘Asiba Bara Tora’ from film ‘Kaberi’. Her melodious voice left the audience crooning.

Next, the music lovers were treated with songs like ‘Smruti Eka Rupa Jahna’ from fim ‘Chaka Bhaunri’, originally sung by Md Aziz, ‘Abhimanini Amania Dheu’ from film ‘Ulka’, originally sung by Arati Mukherjee and a duet ‘Ahaki Badhiya Jodi’ by Balakrushna Swain, Rashmi Rekha Panda and Sarada Prasanna Rout and Alisha Chowdhury respectively.

The singers went on to entertain the audience with some all-time hit songs. A spontaneous wide round of applause at the end of each performance was a testimony to the quality of singing delivered by the singers.

The musicians who gave an able support to the singers were Guru Sitanshu Sekhar Rout on the Harmonium, Sanjay Rout on the Tabla, Rajendra Prasad on the Dholak, Ranjan Kumar on the Keyboard and Sashanka Sekhar on the Guitar.

While chief managing trustee guru Sitanshu Sekhar Rout conducted the show, trust’s chairman Mrs Minati Malla managed the evening.
