Bhubaneswar: Rangashoor, directed by Pratap Rout, produced by Sachikanta Jena, Prashant Beura, Sunil Yadav and Pratap Rout, released under the banner of Prakash Films, is a humble attempt to familiar the cine lovers, particularly the young generation, with ‘Bagha Nacha’, a traditional folk dance from Odisha’s Ganjam district which has been struggling for its survival. In other words, it is a dying art form.
The film has been receiving cine lovers’ appreciations and lapping critical acclaims.
The Rangashoor team led by Sachikanta Jena and Prashant Beura recently met Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, informing him about the content of the film. During discussion, the team not only explored ways to expand its reach to a wider audience but also sought assistance from the state government for the growth of the Odia film industry.
The Rangashoor team included director Pratap Rout, media planner and creative head Pranay Jethy, actor Samaresh Routray, and actress Subhashree Jena.
The film’s worldwide distribution right is with Sony Pictures and the film apart from Odisha also released in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Punee, Surat and Chennai on January 12.
The film’s storytelling is excellent, with all the ingredients of entertainment. It revolves around a girl who wants to perform Bagha Nacha, a dying folk dance form, where the dancers paint their bare body with yellow and black stripes akin to a tiger’s skin and attach a tail at their back to look like a tiger which is strongly objected by the villagers and society who think only men can perform it.
The movie is about the efforts of a father-daughter duo who tries to keep the dying art form afloat. The film showcases ‘Bagha Nacha’, a dying dance form of the state Bagha Nacha and, at the same time, tries to give the message of saving jungles and women empowerment.
The film features Suryamayee Mohapatra, Chaudhury Jayprakash Das, Chaudhury Bikash Das, Samaresh Routray, Subhasish Sharma, Jyoti Ranjan and Dipanwit Das Mohapatra among others.
The makers of the movie didn’t leave any stone unturned in promoting the movie. It promotion was done in several parts of the state and also in different events like Ekamra Utsav.
