17th Guru Debaprasad Award Festival to kick-start today in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The five-day-long 17th edition of Guru Debaprasad Award Festival 2023, organised by Tridhara, is all set to start at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar from October 26, from 6.30pm onwards.

This year the Guru Debaprasad Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 will be conferred to Padma Bhusan Shri Jatin Das, Legendary Painter, Sculpture and Muralist on the inaugural evening. Similarly, Guru Debaprasad Award 2023 will be conferred to Padma Shri Ileana Citaristi (Odissi Dance); Padma Shri Kamalini Asthana & Padma Shri Nalini Asthana (Kathak); Padma Shri Pratibha Prahlad (Bharatnatyam) and Guru Ramakrishna Talukdar (Sattriya Dance). Guru Debaprasad Yuva Prativa Award 2023 will confer to Guru Sonali Mohapatra (Odissi Dance) and Ms. Dipika Priyadarsini (Odissi Dance) on the concluding evening.

Like every year, this year’s festival is also a bouquet of some scintillating performances.

On the inaugural evening i.e. October 26, Tridhara will present a group Odissi dance Rama Kathamrutam and Trio Music Recital will present by Pt. Tarun Bhatttacharya (Santoor), Pt. Ronu Majumdar (Flute) & Pt. Prosenjit Poddar (Tabla).

On October 27, a solo Odissi dance will be presented by Guru Sonali Mohapatra. While the second item of the evening will be a Mridangam recital by Padma Shri recipient Yella Venkateswar Rao, the third presentation will be a Sitar & Sarod Jugalabandi by Kedia brothers (Pt. Manoj Kedia & Pt. Mormukut Kedia).

On October 30, a solo Odissi dance will be presented by Ms. Bagmishree Das. The second item of the evening will be a duet Mardala recital by Guru Dhaneswar Swain & Guru Sachidananda Das. The third item will be a classical vocal recital will be presented by Pt. Siba Prasad Rath.

On October 29, a solo Odissi dance will be presented by Ileana Citaristi; a group Odissi dance recital will be presented by the students of Kala Vikas Kendra, Cuttack. The second item of the evening will be a duet Sattriya Dance presented by Guru Ramkrishna Talukdar & Bidushi Rumi Talukdar and the third item will witness eminent singers of international repute presenting traditional songs of Odisha.

On concluding evening i.e. October 30, Pratibha Prahallad will present a solo Bhratanatyam dance recital. The second item of the evening will be a duet Kathak dance recital recital presented by Nallini Asthana & Kamallin Asthana. The third item will be a Flute recital by Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia (Vrindaban Gurukul).

The 17th Guru Debaprasad Award Festival 2023 has been Sponsored and Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India; the Dept. of Odia Language, Literature and Culture, Govt. of Odisha; ONGC, Vedanta, Royal Midtown Hotel (RMH), MGM Minerals, SAIL and Priyadarshini.

The Award Festival is conducted by Guru Gajendra Panda, Director, Tridhara.

All the art connoisseurs are requested to witness the five-day-long festival to be held at Rabindra Mandap, Bhubaneswar from 6.30 pm onwards from October 26 to 30, 2023. The Entry is Free for all.
