Kolkata: Legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kolkata Sunday. He was 85.
The actor was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for COVID-19 on October 6.
Known for his association with Satyajit Ray, Soumitra also worked with directos including Mrinal Sen, Goutam Ghosh, Tapan Sinha and Rituparno Ghosh.
A recipient of Padma Bhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and three National Film Awards, the actor was born on January 19, 1935.
He will be remembered for films like Apur Sansar, Kapurush, Ashani Sanket, Joi Baba Felunath and Akash Kusum.
