Bhubaneswar: The spirit of nationalism echoed in Rabindra Mandap on Friday evening as the state capital played host to ‘Bharatiyam’, a patriotic musical programme that struck an emotional chord with the audience.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, accompanied by his wife Dr Priyanka Marndi, graced the event as the chief guest.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Ekamra MLA Babu Singh, secretary of Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department, Bijay Ketan Upadhyay and secretary of Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi Dr Chandrasekhar Hota joined him to inaugurate the evening by lighting the auspicious lamp.
While addressing the gathering, CM Majhi not only hailed the cultural, patriotic and nationalistic ethos of India but also was effusive in his praise for Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant festivals, exquisite textiles, mellifluous languages and diverse cuisines.
The cultural programme began with singer Kailash Sahoo presenting ‘E Mere Pyare Watan’, followed by Dr Nazi Alam singing ‘I Love My India’, setting the patriotic pulse racing.

The evening turned into a medley of devotion to the motherland as singers took turns to weave magic with their voices: ‘ Kranti Ra Kahani Kahuchi’ by Subash Ram, ‘Hai Mo Deshara Naranari’ by Pankaj Jal, ‘Ganga Je Deshe Bahe’ by Neha Niharika, ‘Bande Mande Mata’ by sarbeswar Bhoi, ‘Janma Bhumi’ by Bhagyashree Mohanty, ‘Mo Mati Mo Desha’ by Bishnumohan Kabi, ‘It Happens Only In India’ by Ruku Suna, ‘Jen Mati Mor Janam Karam’ by Archana Padhi, ‘Mamata Mayee Mo Bharat Janani’ by Debanshi dash, ‘ ‘Teri Mit’ by Prashant Kumar Das (PK), ‘Dekho Veer Jawanon’ by Kumar Vishnu, ‘Arya Bhumi Matrubhumi’ by Karunakar Sethi, ‘E Mere Watan Logon’ by Jyotirmayee Nayak, ‘Chithi Ayee Hai’ by Ashamukul Barik, ‘Sandeshe Aaten Hain’ by Saroj Jena, and ‘Maula Mere LKele Meri Jaan’ by Rajashree Dash.
The accompanying musicians who lent a good support to the singers were M Shimadri on the Flute and Saxophone, Sachin Kumar Rath on the Tabla, Rabi Narayan Barik on the Dholak, Umakanta Biswal on the Handsonic, Sanjay Kumar Behera on the Keyboard, B Suresh Patra on the Guitar and Dr Debojyoti Padhi on the Octopad.
The programme was organised by the Odisha Sangeet Natak Akademi along with the Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department.
While eminent lyricist Panchanan Nayak executed the evening, Dr Mrutyunjay Rath did the seamless anchoring.
