Bhubaneswar: A guest faculty of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya’s Drama Department was expelled and subsequently arrested for allegedly harassing some girl students on Thursday.
The arrested guest lecturer has been identified as Shatrughna Samal, who joined the institution just six months ago.
As per sources, accusing Samal of harassing some female students, the students of staged a protest at the gate of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalay before hitting to the street. Soon, officers from Kharvela Nagar and Sahid Nagar police stations reached the spot and held discussions with the agitating students and the authorities.
Later, a three-member team led by Special Secretary Deba Prasad Das reached the spot and launched a probe. Following the probe, the said lecturer was sacked. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the institution, the police arrested the lecturer.
Informing about the development, Special Secretary Das said, “We are taking steps to blacklist him so that he can never be posted at any institution.”
