Bhubaneswar: Despite having no festival release advantage or superstar cast, our film ‘Mantramuugdha’ is scripting success. We owe it entirely to our beloved viewers, said Anupam Patnaik, a National award winning director and co-producer of the film, at a press conference here on Saturday.
Attributing the film’s phenomenal success entirely to audience support and strong storytelling, Patnaik said, “The film has collected more than Rs 1 Crore at the box office within just one week of its release and has successfully entered its second week.”
The production house informed that the film released on May 1 is currently being screened in more than 70 theatres across India, including 52 theatres in Odisha alone. In Bhubaneswar, around 30 shows are running daily, reflecting the growing popularity of the movie among moviegoers.
“We believe ‘Mantramuugdha’ has created a new benchmark in Odia cinema industry by outperforming several recently released films. We are expressing our gratitude to our audiences who are showering their love on us,” the makers said.
Co-producer Barsha Patnaik pointed out that the film though released shortly after the release of Akshaya Kumar-starrer horror-comedy ‘Bhoot Bangla’. Yet, the film managed to create its own space.
“Earlier, Odia films’ shows would often lose shows to other language films. As of now, our film is getting the space it deserves. Slowly but surely, Odia cinema is building its own loyal audience base,” she added.
According to the production house, a unique blend of horror, comedy, and music has worked to its advantage. The movie features a talented young cast including Sanoj, Manmay, Sarthak, Bhumika, Suryamayee and Deepanwita and all did their share of job excellently.
The artistes attributed the film’s success largely to the two months’ intensive workshop held before shooting began.
Another highlight of the film is its music. In a first for Odia cinema, five different music directors composed five separate songs, giving audiences a vibrant and fresh cinematic experience.
Last but not the least, it is the film’s striking cinematography by Deepak Kumar and its advanced and polished VFX editing that have helped deliver a national-level cinematic feel.
Besides Anupam Patnaik and Barsha Patnaik, Sanoj, Dipanwita, Manmay and Bhumika also addressed the press conference.
