Barddhaman: Pratibha Cultural Centre in Barddhaman, West Bengal, celebrated its 24th foundation day on August 20.

On this occasion, the disciples of Piyali Ghosh whose brainchild is PCC presented a bouquet of aesthetically chosen Odissi dance items. The programme was so beautifully designed that this reviewer sat through the programme, enjoying all the presentations.

The flowers that formed the bouquet included ‘Swagatam Krishna’, ‘Arvi Pallavi’, ‘Pada Vande’, ‘Bakratunda Mahakaya’, ‘Naba Durga’, ‘Hamsadhwani Pallavi’, ‘Nachanti range shree hari’ and ‘Nagendra Haraya’. All the items were choreographed by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and his able son Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra. The immensely gifted and meticulously trained dancers performed up to the expectation, doing justice to the works of father-son duo.

In fact, Piyali is the disciple of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and his son. Started her training from Guru Giridhari Nayak and Smt Poushali Mukherjee, she had later the opportunity to learn nuances of Odissi dance from none other than Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. She continues her learning from Guru Ratikanta Mohapatra.

She has performed at several prestigious festivals in India and Abroad like Konark Dance Festival, Puri Beach Festival, Uday Shankar Dance Festival, Bhillai Classical Dance Festival, International Odissi Dance Festival and the list goes on…
