As the news broke, condolence messages started pouring. Starting from President Ram Nath Kovind to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to political leaders across the party line, singers, actors and actresses from across the nation expressed their deepest condolences.

Fondly called as the Nightingale of India, the singer  started her career at the age of 13 and recorded her song in the year 1942. During her career spanning over seven decades, she sang in over 36 languages and over 30,000 songs to her credit.

While her first Hindi song is ‘Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya’ (1943), it is difficult to pick out best of her songs. ‘Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (Mughal-e-Azam), ‘Kahin Deep Jale Kahin Dil(Bees Saal Baad), ‘Inhi Logon Ne (Pakeezah), ‘Sheesha Ho Ya Dil Ho (Asha), ‘Dushman Na Kare (Aakhir Kyon?), ‘Sun Sahiba Sun (Ram Teri Ganga Maili), ‘O Paalanhaare’(Lagaan) and the list goes on.

And the list will be incomplete without the mention of her patriotic song Aye Mere Watan Ke Logon.
