Ganrapota Saptak Natya Sanstha’s 24th drama festival

North 24 Praganas: The 24th Drama festival organised by Ganrapota Saptak, one of the premier theatre organisations in West Bengal, was recently concluded.

The three-day-long festival was held at Barnaporichay Auditorium at Ganarpota in North 24 Praganas district of West Bengal starting December 23.

As the main theme of this year’s theater festival was “Sabujer Abhijan” (The journey of green),this year, the young members of Ganarpota Saptak were given the opportunity to lead from the front.

The opening ceremony was held at Mukta Chatwar, adjacent to the auditorium. While noted stage and film artiste Udan Chattopadhyay inaugurated the festival, Abhijit Chatterjee attended the event as the chief guest and Kaushik Chatterjee and Ratri Chatterjee of ‘Shantipur Sanskritik’ were present as special guests. On this occasion, young and talented actress from Ganarpota area, Moushumi Dalal was felicitated.

The inaugural play of the evening was ‘Kojagari’, staged by Belghariya Abhimukh. Directed by Kaushik Chattopadhyay, the play was a bold contemporary production. Acting, stage design, light design and music had their roles in making the play success.

The second play of the day was ‘Rakta Upakhyan’, by Shantipur Sanskritik, playwright and direction by Kaushik Chattopadhyay. The actors tried their level best to give justice to their characters.

From the fact that a houseful audience enjoyed both the plays of the inaugural evening, it once again established the success of the continuous theatrical practice of Ganrapota Saptak.

On the second day of the festival, ‘Journey of Spartacus’ was presented by Bangaon Dhula Urania. While the original play was by Badal Sircar, adapted and directed by Lopamudra Guha Niyogi.

The second play of the second day was ‘Ao Tanik Prem Kare’ staged by Divine Social Development Organization from Patna, the playwright of the play was Vibha Rani and Designed and Directed by Swaram Upadhyay. The last drama of the second day was ‘Comfort Zone Athoba More Geli Arunesh?’. It was produced by Ganrapota Saptak, written by Swapan Ranjan Haldar and directed by Pronay Biswas and Ruma Chatterjee.

The first drama of the 3rd day was ‘Anarzayan’, staged by ‘Gariya Sucharcha’ and written and directed by Nandan Bhattacharya. The second drama of the day is ‘Rupai Saju Katha’ produced by ‘Dakshineshwar Sanket” written by Palli Kavi Jasimuddin, edited and directed by Priyanko Roy. The last drama of 24th drama festival was ‘Kaler Jatra’, produced by Ganarpota Saptak Natya Sanstha, written by Rabindranath Tagore and directed by Pronay Biswas and Ruma Chatterjee. The highlight of the play was that as many as 25 child artistes participated in this play.

At the same time the host organization also conducted 8th inter-school drama competition.This competition was held on 23rd and 24th December. While total five schools participated in the competition, their productions were excellent, speaking volume of their dedication towards theatre. The audience enjoyed a lot. Bongaon High School, Kalupur Panchpota High School and Chandpara Bani Vidyapithi bagged the first, second and third positions in the inter-school drama competition respectively. The schools were felicitated in the Mukta Chatwar on 24th December.
